Right I've grown up and got myself a new website. Yay. Thanks to the Decisive Flow team who also helped me work out what exactly my business was about, at the same time - nothing like seeing the words on the www to wonder if they're true or not!
Anyway thanks for reading, and its all carrying on from here:
so please do continue to read, enjoy and post your comments

It's amazing what you can achieve when you don't care who gets the credit

This is my new mantra. I borrowed it from an amazing person I worked with at the local economic development agency, but she doesn't mind sharing.
I think all economic development agency staff should repeat this to themselves in the mirror every morning. And every council member. And every politician. And all those people that think its worth protecting their tiny patch in this tiny country.
When you liberate yourself from caring who gets the credit for a new idea, you can simply focus on executing it brilliantly and seeing results. You also find that the distraction of having to 'socalise' the idea (arghhh) and make sure all your 'stakeholders' are aware of what's happening, goes away and whaddya know, the air clears and you can Just Get On and Do It.
When you do care who gets the credit - and normally that means caring if YOU get the credit, you're distracting from the true merit of the idea. If your involvement is truly critical, I would worry that your idea isn't that great because it relies on one individual to ensure it reaches fruition.
I think what underlies this is that I believe ideas are just ideas. Lots of people have lots of them lots of the time. It's not that amazing to have a great idea. It's actually quite easy to put together a sharp manifesto of ideas, a jazzy new strategy for the region etc. Taking a great idea and making it happen, however, whoever, whenever, wherever just because it's so good it MUST happen - now that's amazing.

Back by popular demand, Unlimited Potential is holding a New Year's party at the end of the month, with an opportunity to meet New Zealand's best bloggers, and they're all Welly based of course.
A year ago, we asked leading Wellington bloggers to predict the future for 2007...
Current holder of the UP Visionary title (& tiara) is Mauricio Freitas - as voted on the night by UP attendees. His crystal- ball-gazing foresaw the departure of Theresa Gattung, the demise of Econet Wireless, the release of Windows Vista, no bloggers for MSM... and the abdication of the Queen...
Once again, we've asked Wellington's best bloggers to gaze into the future and tell us what the big news will be in the next twelve months.
The bloggers:
- David Farrar, of Kiwiblog fame
- Mauricio Freitas, Geekzone Guru
- Hamish MacEwan, local visionary
- Philip Fierlinger, turntable technologist
- Tom Beard, Wellurbanite
The blogger who makes the best predictions - as voted by the audience - will be crowned UP Visionary of the Year for 2008, and receive an official certificate, a beautiful tiara, and full bragging rights... at least until 2009, when we will vote again on whether to revoke their title.
When: Wednesday 30 January, 2008
5:30 for a 6pm start
Where: Wellington Chamber of Commerce
Level 28, The Majestic Centre, 100 Willis Street
RSVP:
The evening will conclude with a traditional Unlimited Potential feast: free pizza and beer! RSVP now at http://www.up.org.nz/ to reserve your spot!
A night off at Wellington's new wine bar

Wineloft was officially opened last night, 73 The Terrace. Wineloft was just awarded Auckland bar of the year by Metro magazine so they have a reputation to maintain here in the capital.
It's a beautiful new building, another Bob Jones investment, complete with roof garden. Quite classy atmosphere and the open fire (gas but hey) is a good centrepiece. I was pleased to see that Dave and his partner followed my advice when we met at PWB - and put in frosted windows at the front. Apparently that wouldn't have worked in Auckland as people there want to be seen with each other. I think people in Wellington are so used to being seen and bumping into each other that its quite a relief to have somewhere a little private to knock back a lovely fat buttery Chardonnay.
Great opening party, with a warm welcome from Wellington via Kerry and Sir Bob Check out the plaque in the corner by the bar.
This is their Auckland bar, but the vibe is definitely the same. Only thing I forgot - to check the facilities. Will just have to go back....

I was asked today what makes me happy and what makes me mad. The happy one is easy but the mad one was a bit more tricky. Then it came to me as I left the office to meet one of the Unlimited Potential crew for coffee and a catch up about the next event.
People who wait to cross the road WITHOUT PRESSING THE BUTTON to make the little red man become a little green man.
Why? How can you be so lazy? Are you really so wrapped up in your little world you didn't notice the button that's on EVERY LAMPPOST by EVERY CROSSING? Do you get pleasure from making me stand for longer in the howling southerly?
(now I'll get found out that the button doesn't actually speed up the light change but I swear it does)
